How I Rescue My Skin After a Breakout

Reading Time: 4 minutes

If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen my story talking about my skincare journey, traveling and how my skin is having a hard time right now. I thought it would be a great time to share my emergency skincare routine.

My skin is classified as a combination skin type. What that means is my skin is somewhat oily and gets dry from the winter. I also have adult acne, hyperpigmentation, and dark spots. To treat my skin when it’s having a bad moment, I use gentle products that are filled with moisture and acne-fighting materials.

For cleansing my skin, I use this Activated Charcoal with Peppermint & Tea Tree bar from Blue Ridge Apothecary. I use a washcloth to help cleanse my face after lathering the bar under cool water. The tea tree helps target my acne spots, the activated charcoal draws out the impurities in my skin and the peppermint aids

I got this bar at a local boutique called Squash Blossom Boutique in Georgia. This bar is made by a local Georgian apothecary called Blue Ridge Apothecary.

Sheet Masks & Mask

From Tony Moly, I love these Sheet Masks. They are quick, easy and filled with serum on the sheet. I use this for 10 minutes or longer, and I use the leftover serum on my neck too. You can purchase these sheet masks in Urban Outfitters, Amazon, or Tony Moly. I use these masks if my skin is feeling super dry and dull.

My other favorite mask includes detox masks like this one from Cocokind Skincare. This one uses chlorophyll that is made from plants. I use multiple different recipes with this mask. I usually use it with my Rosewater or with my Indian Healing Clay with Rosewater.

Facial Mist & Toner

For a daily refresher and toner, I use the Cocokind Skincare Organic Rosewater. I find that I like this one better than the other Rosewaters I have used. Rosewater is gentle on the skin and it is enough to calm down the irritation that may be happening on your skin.

A good way to get rid of old, dead skin cells is through an exfoliator. A good physical exfoliator is this one by Cocokind Skincare. It’s made of sea moss and it doesn’t have the microbeads. Those microbeads are harsh for your skin and bad for the environment; the government has even signed an agreement to remove all those microbeads in products by 2020.

An oil is a good way to lock in moisture and seal all those vitamins for your skin. A few of my favorites include the ‘Golden Elixir’ from Cocokind,100% Rosehip oil and Tamanu Oil from Cocolene. Oils can be your best friend and you don’t need to be afraid of them if you have oily skin. I usually pair my oils with a facial massage or my jade roller from Mount Lai. It makes sure my oils are evenly spread, draining my fluids, and a facial massage all in one.

Acne Pimple Master Patch & Turmeric Stick

This is one of my saviors. The Acne Pimple Master Patch is quick and easy to use. I put this on an acne spot overnight and it’s visible reduced the next day. Sometimes, I use this two days in a row and my skin is clean out from all the whiteheads & blackheads. This patch paired with the sheet mask helps with cleaning my pores and reducing my acne greatly.

Another good way to reduce the inflammation of my acne, I use the Turmeric Stick from Cocokind Skincare before I put on the Acne Pimple Master Patch. I tend to leave this turmeric on from 10 minutes to a couple of hours before washing it off.
