The beauty industry has changed rapidly since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. The industry has seen new developments in science, technology, e-commerce, and beauty education across borders and brands. There has been an increase of new brands launching during the pandemic from small businesses to big names. All aiming to get a piece growing of the market share of beauty. For the future of 2022, The Beaute Study staff has developed a list of top five beauty trends for 2022 that you should keep your eyes on for this year.
Skincare-Makeup Hybrids
As the pandemic continues, there has been a rise in skincare usage from 2020 to 2021. Our trend forecast for 2022 includes makeup influenced by skincare trends with the term “skin-ification” of makeup. These makeup formulas will include a focus on the improvement of the skin. This includes products with acne-fighting properties, reducing redness and hyperpigmentation. Tinted moisturizers, BB creams, and CC creams will return to the color space with a focus on natural glow and hydration. It’s perfect to handle with your skin under a mask.
Blue Light Prevention Products
For those who increased their electronic usage from 2020, there has been a focus on reducing blue light from technology filters, blue light eyeglasses, and screen protectors. Skincare is the latest member to include blue light prevention in product categories like eye cream, facial moisturizers, facial toners, and makeup setting sprays. These products include new trending ingredients like Plankton Extract and peptides as scientific development continues to grow in the beauty industry.
Fragrance
Fragrance is a category that has grown significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic from perfume sprays to candles at home. The Beaute Study staff see this trend continuing to grow with an increase of new fragrance brands and current fragrance houses introducing flankers to their current portfolio. The increase of fragrance sampling online through retailers has kept the increase in fragrance growing alongside social media content from fragrance content creators on Instagram and Tik Tok.
Multi-Use Makeup Products
Consumers are looking to simplify their routines with fewer products. Gone are the days of extreme beauty collections on Instagram to today’s 3-in-1 products like cream-based pigments, and multi-use eye, bronzer, and cheek palettes. Brands that are focused on makeup artistry and simplification of routines will win in this trend for 2022. It gives the consumer the opportunity to build a ritual with fewer products and focus on key areas as the bold or nude eye looks and naturally radiant skin
At-Home Hair Treatments & Tools
The increase of consumers away from the salons has bought an increase of at-home hair treatments and tools. Consumers have turned to at-home coloring, salon-inspired at-home treatments, and investing in high-quality hair tools. Trending products include hair serums, hair masks, customized hair care products, and color protection products. 2022 will continue this trend by introducing at-home salon-quality treatments like hair glosses, smoothing treatments, and keratin treatments. There has been an increase in hair care brands introducing themselves to the haircare market share. Some of these brands come from well-known industry professionals that are aiming for the prestige beauty market share.
The beauty industry has much to develop and discover about what consumers want for this year. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented uncertainty but, it has also brought new ways of communicating to each one of us through social media, online masterclasses, and digital universes. We are keeping an eye on what are the upcoming beauty trends for 2022 in the industry.
