THE ART OF ONYCHOMANCY – NAIL READING

Today, I want to share with you the Art of Onychomancy. I have been working with this beautiful piece of magic for three years now. It is a standard practice in my beauty commitments. I am going to share with you what it is, why I use it, what I learn, and how you can learn and use it yourself with resources!

Onychomancy is the art of nail reading divination. It dates back to the Babylonian times when they would apply water and oil to a boy’s nail and divine the symbols that came forth. I learned it from Kikimancy as an addition to my background in beauty education, astrology, color theory, and beauty history. It is a beautiful art that you can use as nails are a part of the nervous system and you can read your nails & others for what you may need at a time. I can easily read someone’s nails now at random before asking for their natal chart.

In some other contexts, it is based on palmistry, chakras, and reflexology. There are different modalities blended and it helped me understand how and why I can use it to my advantage. I can read my hands and my nails if I need to pay attention to something. It’s fun, delightful, and motivating. I love looking at my hands and my nails while I am working, typing, and creating something. It is one of the ways you can see beauty rather quickly by looking directly at your hands versus a mirror. I have used this methodology as a way to manifest and play with energy as a game. Let me explain in more detail.

I am aware of the power behind different colors and how they are associated with emotions, themes, and the divine. For example, red is associated with passion, energy, fire, and love. It has been associated with Mars, Pluto, and Venus energy from an astrology view. Naturally, the human eye moves and gravitates toward the color ‘red’. When you use it on your hands, your eyes gravitate towards it too. From an astrological standpoint, you can use the energy of red for love, passion and fire. If you need some confidence, put on the color red. If you need motivation to take action, red nails or a red outfit work wonders.

Now, let’s say you are interested in nail shapes and length… you can take your energy to another level using this method. After learning from Kiki and her research, each shape breaks down into different energies based on astrology. First, the almond and round shape is one of my favorites as it hits the air signs. If you need more communication and intelligence, almond is great. If you need patience and long-term motivation, go with a square shape for the earth signs. Do you want to connect with your emotions more, look no further than a stiletto shape with water signs. Coffins are perfect for fire sign energy. The length of the nail matters too with how much energy you want to receive and take in. The longer the nail, the closer to the goddess aka the feminine. The feminine receives more energy you can take in with longer nail beds. Fitting with cultures that had royalty with longer nails and adornments on their hands too.

I use these methods for fun and pleasure. I see my nails as little altars to adorn with colors, jewels, and designs. I love spending time doing or getting my nails done. Plus, I use my jewelry to add to the effects of my magic and the pleasure of my look and life. For example, I love wearing rings on certain rings to elevate the look while working my magic with the jewels inside them. It’s my little secret. I look at my ring finger, which is ruled by Apollo and represents the “illumination of consciousness through pleasure and creativity – both artistic and reproductive”. A break to this nail can show me themes to focus on over time too.

There are so many details I can go into with this learning. I have personally read people’s nails for the last three years as an additional part of my beauty offerings and practice.
