What’s the Difference Between Eau De Toilette and Eau de Parfum

There’s no secret that there is confusion between the Eau de Parfum and Eau De Toilette. When many arrive at the fragrance counter, they may ask “what’s the difference?” “Which one is stronger?” “Is it actually toilet water?”
Yes, I have received these questions when I was an SA. In this article, I will be sharing what are the differences between Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette. Each fragrance has a level of concentration. There are 4 main levels of fragrance concentration: eau de cologne, eau de toilette, eau de parfum, and parfum. In women’s fragrances, the two most important are Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette. The higher you continue to grow in your desired perfume oil or ‘jus’ concentration, then the more expensive it will become to buy.

This fragrance level concentration is common in Versace Fragrances and Marc Jacob Fragrances. It contains 10% to 15% of oil concentration before key ingredients like preservatives. In this level, 80% of the fragrance will disappear after four hours. Recommendation: Test out how strong your perfume is on your body to see if you need a lighter version or a stronger fragrance.

This fragrance level concentration is common in Chanel Fragrances and Dior Fragrances. It contains 15% to 25% oil concentration before other key ingredients. At this level, 70% of your fragrance will disappear after four hours. At this level, it is stronger than an Eau de Toilette, and will cost more.

Choose your Type

Fragrance is always personal. Your body chemistry can affect how your aroma smells on you. It can pick up special notes inside and warm them up more than the others. As your fragrance wears throughout the day, it evaporates over time. After the four hour period, you may get to the base layer of the fragrance and it will not smell the same. Be aware of this aspect and experiment on what your body likes.
